Mexican Foods You Should Try

If you are a traveler and you are planning to visit Mexico you should have a thorough knowledge about the culture and cuisines. Mexico has long been among the world’s most popular holiday destinations, attracting sun seekers and food lovers alike. During my trip to Mexico, I explored a lot about it. Beautiful sites and mouth-watering foods grasp all my attention. Travelling in the country is the perfect way to get to know authentic Mexican food and enjoy the flavors and dishes you won’t find anywhere else.

Similar to other countries, traditional food in Mexico varies significantly from region to region. Coastal areas have an abundance of seafood and Dishes in Oaxaca are different than in Yucatan. An amazing thing is that, name of similar dish also varies across the country.

Anyways, I am going to make it easy for you to choose which food you should try during your journey without any hesitation.

Tortillas

If you are an Asian, you must be familiar with Tortilla. But I think Mexicans are nothing without it. Basically it is the staple food in Mexico. Tortillas are either corn or flour based unleavened flatbread. Few years ago, people used to make Tortilla on hands but now most are being made by hands. The tostada is a famous type of tortilla that has been deep-fried until crunchy and is usually topped with beans, meat, lettuce, avocado, cream and cheese.

Mole

This is a delicate and unique sauce, which you must try during your trip; if really want to taste the real flavor of country. About 20 ingredients are required to prepare mole which could be served over chicken or turkey.

Guacamole

This is a historical dish and dates back to the time of the Aztecs. Guacamole is undoubtedly one of Mexico’s most popular dishes, but few people know are familiar with traditional its history. Usually it is prepared from mashed avocadoes, onions, tomatoes, lemon juice and chilli peppers. Guacamole is often eaten with tortilla chips but at many places it is used as a side dish.

In many areas you will find astonishing thing, pockets of banana leaves or corn husk. Don’t get surprised, just discard the wrapping before eating and inside you will find mouthwatering corn dough stuffed with either a sweet or savory filling. Fillings vary from meats and cheeses to fruits, vegetables, chilies and mole.

Birria

Do not forget to ask for a bowl of Birria, because it is delicious. You will find birria tacos at roadside stands and small restaurants throughout the country. Traditionally, it is made with mutton. The slow-cooked, super moist meat is typically served in a shallow bowl and topped with chopped onions, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime.
